“Top High Schools in Brevard County 2025: U.S. News Ranks Best Florida Schools”

Brevard County schools are shining bright in the latest 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings. Out of more than 654 Florida high schools, five Brevard schools landed in the Top 110 statewide, with two making it into the Top 100 nationally.

The standout schools are:

  • West Shore Jr./Sr. High (Melbourne)
  • Edgewood Jr./Sr. High (Merritt Island)
  • Satellite High (Satellite Beach)
  • Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High (Cocoa Beach)
  • Viera High (Viera)

Brevard Schools Earn National Recognition

West Shore Jr./Sr. High and Edgewood Jr./Sr. High not only secured top state rankings but also earned a place among the best 100 high schools in the entire nation.

Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Mark Rendell praised the achievement, saying:

“It is great to see the hard work of our students and staff recognized with these rankings. Our community should be very proud.”

He added that the results highlight Brevard’s mission of providing rigorous academics, advanced coursework, and opportunities that prepare students for the future.


How U.S. News Ranks High Schools

Every year, U.S. News & World Report analyzes over 24,000 public high schools nationwide. In Florida alone, 654 schools were ranked this year.

Rankings are based on six main factors:

  • College Readiness
  • Curriculum Breadth
  • State Assessment Proficiency
  • State Assessment Performance
  • Underserved Student Performance
  • Graduation Rate

Each school is given a 0–100 overall score, combining these performance indicators.


Brevard County High School Rankings 2025

1. West Shore Jr./Sr. High – Top 5 in Florida, No. 57 Nationally

  • Graduation rate: 100%
  • Math scores: 98%
  • Reading scores: 94%
  • Science scores: 99%
  • College readiness: 94.5
  • Economically disadvantaged: 12%
  • Student-teacher ratio: 18:1

2. Edgewood Jr./Sr. High – Top 10 in Florida, No. 89 Nationally

  • Graduation rate: 100%
  • Math scores: 89%
  • Reading scores: 96%
  • Science scores: 98%
  • College readiness: 93.8
  • Economically disadvantaged: 16%
  • Student-teacher ratio: 19:1

3. Satellite High – No. 69 in Florida, No. 1,114 Nationally

  • Graduation rate: 97%
  • Math scores: 68%
  • Reading scores: 68%
  • Science scores: 82%
  • College readiness: 53.4
  • Economically disadvantaged: 20%
  • Student-teacher ratio: 22:1

4. Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High – No. 85 in Florida, No. 1,280 Nationally

  • Graduation rate: 99%
  • Math scores: 43%
  • Reading scores: 69%
  • Science scores: 80%
  • College readiness: 56.5
  • Economically disadvantaged: 29%
  • Student-teacher ratio: 20:1

5. Viera High – No. 101 in Florida, No. 1,492 Nationally

  • Graduation rate: 98%
  • Math scores: 66%
  • Reading scores: 70%
  • Science scores: 81%
  • College readiness: 46.4
  • Economically disadvantaged: 16%
  • Student-teacher ratio: 22:1
